Today, I’m 30

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything on here because… I’m lazy. Well, a little lazy, and a lot busy. If any of you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been doing a bit of traveling, a lot of writing, and have been gearing up for the release of my debut novel, WHEN I WAS THE GREATEST, which, by the way, comes out January 7th. Of course, I’m excited about that, but I’m more excited about the timing of it. Today is my birthday. Thirty years old. And so far, I’ve spent it doing absolutely nothing but thinking, and drinking coffee, and now this — blogging. But I’m happy. Not just because I’m thirty (though that’s more than enough to be happy about) but because of what thirty looks like for me. I’ve ended my twenties at the beginning of a beautiful career for myself. The people in my life are all supportive and loving. My mother is awesome (she’s in a separate “people in my life” category.) And I’m… happy. In one month, something I wrote will be on shelves all over the country. I’ll be beginning a tour. And I’ll still just be… me. Really, really, happy.

So, come on thirties. I’m excited to get to know you, to see what you have to offer a life, already amazing.

Shine time.

I really did enjoy your presentation on Saturday at Woodmore Country Club. You are an inspiration to all black men, young and old alike. I am a budding writer; I have been writing my memoir for 7 years, stopping and starting. I will start a class (10 weeks) on the 15th of January. I am hoping to finish the memoir in May and begin trying to get it published.
