Do Me Baby (revisited)

This morning I was moving my car and listening to the radio when “Do Me Baby,” by Bel Biv Devoe came on. Of course, I got hype, instantly transported back to my eight year-old self waiting for, Smack it up, flip it, rub down, oh noooooo.

But twenty years ago, I wasn’t really paying much attention to what they were saying. I mean, I knew what “Do me” meant, and I sort of knew what “smacking it up” entailed, but what I never noticed was the opening lines of the rap part. But this morning I heard them loud and clear.

Backstage, under age, adolescent/

How ya’ doin’,”Fine,” she replied/

I sighed,

“I like to do the wild thing.”

!!!???

Underage…adolescent?

Yikes…gotta admit, it kinda changes the whole smack it up part for me. And the flip it part. And definitely the rubbing it down line.

*puke

(Sooooo many “New Jack Swing” jokes I’m refraining from right now…)
