Sparkling City: A Poem for Sandy
how dare you turn the coast to crust
and make the Apple your new mark
how dare you turn the brick to dust
and make our sparkling city dark
the nerve of you to bang and smash
and rip the tree of any bark
as powerful as you were brash
you left our sparkling city dark
the moaning wind the howling breeze
that rumbled down a street so stark
with water cold up to my knees
you turned our sparkling city dark
but there will be light there’s always light
all we need is just a little spark
to push against the monstrous might
that turned our sparkling city dark
a tragedy though understand
i’d be remiss to not remark
the blame that’s split ‘tween God and man
that turned our sparkling city dark
